Thoughts

When you come across something in the reading that strikes you in some way (it could be shocking, weird, wonderful, etc.), write about it here and put your thoughts with it. Remember, it's important for you to do some analysis or evaluation with it. With this portion, I want you to post your own once, and respond to other students' postings twice by the end of the novel. Remember, I am looking for higher level thinking on your post as well as your two responses. I look forward to reading what you have to say.

As you read...

As you read, identify some of the most trying decisions Ji-li must make. Her decisions are complicated by the pressure to become an "educable" child according to Communist standards and to break with her "black" family. How are Ji-li's decisions influenced by the Communist propaganda? Remember: you must do some higher-level reflecting on this, which means I am looking for you to do some analyzing or evaluating. This must be done by the end of the day on Sunday, May 8th.

Propaganda

We have discussed the fact that the da-zi-bao were opinion based. In this blog, discuss how propaganda is used. Cite examples of how it has been used in both world and U.S. history toward political ends. This must be done by the end of the day Sunday, May 1st.
