Propaganda

We have discussed the fact that the da-zi-bao were opinion based. In this blog, discuss how propaganda is used. Cite examples of how it has been used in both world and U.S. history toward political ends. This must be done by the end of the day Sunday, May 1st.

  1. Propaganda is used by many political party's. It shows one one side of the story but not the other. For example, when people are trying to enforce something or become an important role in the government the will use this to make more people believe and follow then. They will say how great it is but will not say all the bad things about it and will not voice others opinions. One real world example of propaganda is how Sherif Jo arrests illegal immigrants. He says all the bad things they do but does not say how he will ruin their lives.

  2. Like what trent said, propaganda is used to convince people to do something that they want them to do. Propaganda has come up a lot around wartime. Different militaries will use propaganda to convince people to support or join the military. They are also used to convince people to not vote or do something. Propaganda was also used by Nazi Germany during the 1930's to convince the German Public to do what Hitler wanted them to do. Personally, I think you should not listen to propaganda, but make your own educated descisions on the topic.

  3. Propaganda has been used in many different roles. One example would be political party's. When you see those commercials on t.v., they talk about what their opponent is doing wrong. Then they encourage people to vote for them. That would be an example of bandwagon. A real world situation would be like the President talking all about he or she is going to save the economy and how they are going to have world peace but in reality they don't do anything.

  4. Propaganda draws a consumer, a bystander, or even an enemy into thinking twice about something, usually having to do with the purchase of items, or joining the military, as Tommy said. Techniuqes such as "The Bandwagon Effect" are used to get others to think that everyone is, as in the story, being Communists, so they should too.

  5. Propaganda is the usage of specific information to influence public opinion or to gain public support for a cause. It emphasizes bits of information that support a position and de-emphasizes or excludes those that do not. Misleading statements may be included. Advertising and missionary activity can be having to with propaganda, but the term is usually used in politics.Propaganda is a particular way of presenting a message, whether true or false it will always be in favor of the point the person wishes to make. It is primarily used in delivering political messages and similar techniques are used in the advertising of products.

Propaganda is used to convince people to think a certain way about something.

  6. Propaganda is a thing used to express his/her opionion on a certain subject or idea, and get people to believe what you are saying. It is mostly used for military or like what Allison said those "tv commercials." A world history example is when a person uses propaganda to state his or her opinion on entering or leaving a war such as Iraq. A US history example is when the president or any other important political figure states his or her opinion on a bill and trys to convince people into believing thier opinion.

  7. Propaganda is something that presuades you to do what somebody wants. It can be used to make someone buy something to a military campaign. Many times a company will urge you to by something. They will even make you feel bad for not supporting them (like ASPCA). In U.S. history Presidents will insist that they are the best person for the job. They will tell you terrible things the other candidates do, but not much they will. So I urge you to read this today!

  8. Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing th attitude of a community toward some cause.Propaganda can refer to the uses that is public health recommendations, signs encouraging citizens to participate in a election. Also messages encouraging persons to report crimes to the police, among others.I think propaganda can be abused when it doesn't tell the truth. That is how propaganda is used.

  9. Propaganda is something used to persuade people into thinking something is a good idea. They'll say how great the idea is but, they won't say the bad things about it. Or bad things about another person or idea. Whatever their opinion on the subject. Propaganda is often used when running for en election. They always try to find bad things to say about the other competition so they will look bad and then they will say for you to vote for them. That's how propaganda is commonly used in the United States.

  10. Propaganda is, according to an online dicionary, information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, or some other name for a group of people. Propaganda was used in the beginning of the revolutonary war, when americans harassed and hit british soldiers and the soldiers shot into the crowd. The americans posted violent pictures and stories about the british, and this played a big role in starting the revolutionary war.I also agree with cory, candinates for precidency do use propaganda to make themselves sound bettet, though eventually the people stop believing them because they can't all be perfect. I hope I provided enough info on how propoganda had negative (and positive, if you really think about it. I mean, we would still be speaking with british accents if we hadn't had that war!) impact on the U.S. and the world. :-)

  11. Propaganda was used in World War One. Using propaganda made sure that people would only know what their governments wanted them to know, for instance, the government would only tell the people of its ruling bad stories, ideas to curse the countries name. The U.S. used propaganda in World War Two to keep the prices of war supplies down; having citizens plant "victory gardens".

  12. Propaganda is used to influence a person's attitude toward a certain cause or position. Most of the time it is used, propaganda generally leaves out the important facts that are against the idea, twists the information, or lies. One example of propaganda in the United States is the popular Uncle Sam posters encouraging men to enlist during World War I. At roughly the same time, propaganda greatly influenced the Russain revolution where the country turned communist.

  13. Propaganda is used to make people have a certain standpoint on a situation. For example, this can be used to have someone be or not be elected.

  14. Propaganda is often used to influence one's political or religious views. During World War II, Propaganda was used throughout the United States to convince more people to support our troops and to help keep a positive attitude. It was also used by the opposing troops intended on bringing the U.S. troops' fighting spirit down.

  15. Propaganda is basically used to influence ones views. Propaganda is known for only discussing the good things and leaving out the bad. A common example is a product commercial. Unless if it's a kind of medicine or drug, they will be sure to not mention the negative impact the thing might have.

  16. Propaganda is often used to highlight the good and not the bad of something, or the other way around. In Red Scarf Girl, propaganda is used agnst people who the government said were "bad people", like teachers who encouraged students to "compete" for the highest grades. Other people who propaganda was used against was neighbors who had things relating ton fourolds, listened to foreign broadcasts, and were related to someone they couldn't help being related to.

  17. Propaganda is almost always used for political use. For example in WW2 propaganda was put to use by Hitler when he began telling Germany that only one particular race was worth living on Earth. In the beginning people in Germany were just like, "What a weird idea!". But after a few years Hitler was leader of Germany! All because of very negative persuasion that swayed more then a few thousand people in Germany.

  18. Propaganda is the manipulation of public opinion, and is used in the political world all the time. For example, propaganda is used in the presidential elections and media. Whether propaganda is used for positive or negetive intentions it always has one purpose. To persuade you to think a certain way.

  19. Propaganda is just basically a way for companys, the military, and in this case, the Government, to somewhat control the people or make them do what they want them to do. The head of these tend to brainwash people. Like in the military, Hitler used something that all people in Germany wanted fixed, the economy, He used that to get people to follow him and believe him when he said Jewish were the cause of the economic collapse.Using what he said, he got millions of people killed. And soon the city was in Ruins. So, my point is, Propaganda is used by the government or military, or, well, i guess anyone who wanted control of the people. And most of the time, unfortunately, its used in the worst possible way.

  20. Prpaganda is used greatly in the U.S. especially in the political feild, for example elections. And mainly in the presidential elections, because this effects everyone across the country. One use is making posters stating the campaigners slogans. AlsoT.V ads are used for propaganda, because most likely everyone will see their ad. Not only is propaganda used in the U.S. it is used world wide. A great example would be in WW2 when HItler was promoting his way of thinking to other countries. So they could help him accomplish his main goal. Having propaganda can build up a cause for the better like in presidential elections. Or it can be used to achieve something that isn't so profitable to everyone, like in WW2.

  21. Adding to what I said, when a president is trying to make people believe in his ideas it would be considered propaganda. In the world, (like Taylor said) when Hitler would support the bad ways of thinking was also propaganda.

  22. Propaganda is basically used to influence ones views. Propaganda was used in World War II to influence other Germans to help Germany. They would only teach those things like i the book.

  23. I agree with Gerardo about using propaganda to talk about religious beliefs.

  24. Propaganda was used obviously during much of wartime in most countries like China and the US. China used the da-zi-bao's as opinion based posters so they can express their feelings for each citizen politically. Mostly to point out four-olds. Like when the da-zi-bao was put up against Ji-Li and her teachers "relationship". Having being a friend of a teacher was considered a four-old. The US used propaganda to pump up people to hate the germans in world war 2 to join the allies. I know its late, i was having technical difficulties with my cpu and internet
